    With the R7150 series, SHIMANO is also giving the 105 groupset its 12th gear. gear as well as integration into the electronic Di2 system raising its best-selling road bike groupset to the next level for its 40th anniversary. Electronic shifting thus finally reaches the masses, as do the advantages of the wide 12-speed cassette. With the 105 ST-R7170 brake/shift lever combination, SHIMANO not only supports the new 12-speed drivetrains, but also cuts the cable connection to the rear derailleur and front derailleur, as it did with the Dura Ace 9250 and Ultegra 8150. An integrated radio transmitter, powered by two CR1632 button cells, sends the shifting commands wirelessly to the rear derailleur as the master unit, which in turn forwards them to the front derailleur. The complex cabling in the cockpit area with junction box and Bluetooth module is now a thing of the past. For the brake unit, too, the Japanese engineers focus on consistent further development. The hydraulic brake lever impresses with outstanding ergonomics and excellent dosing. For optimal braking performance in all conditions, the BR-R7170 calliper promises more clearance for the brake pads thanks to an improved brake body design, which reduces noise levels and facilitates correct alignment. The J-Kit comes pre-filled and, thanks to the pre-installed olive, allows for easy cutting of the cables as well as cable routing inside the frame, too. Additional bleeding is therefore generally unnecessary.
